Venetian plaster
Venetian plaster is a specialized faux treatment that originated in Venice, Italy and now graces the walls of many homes around the world. To create an effective and authentic Venetian plaster finish requires the know-how and experience to get it right. Venetian plaster actually contains marble powder that gives it its' depth and sheen. At Home Sweet Home, we have been doing Venetian plaster for many years and it has become a speciality in the range of services we offer.
The process
The art of Venetian plaster takes repeated experience to learn. Each wall is one of a kind in its appearance. The applicator can control the sheen level by sanding and burnishing the plaster. The end result can be made to look like polished marble, stone or even suede.
Step 1 is applying a texture coat.
Step 2 is applying a skim coat.
Step 3 is the most important and will determine the amount of sheen. The applicator will burnish and polish to varying degrees until he or she achieves the desired result.
